Phil Ivey: "I'll play WSOP this year!"
WSOP 2011 was held without the arguably best player in the world, American Phil Ivey. This year though he'll take part!
It was a regular sensation last year when the biggest star on the poker circuit chose not to play at the World Series of Poker. Phil Ivey chose to boycott the event in sympathy with all the players who had lost money in the Full Tilt scandal.
This year it seems the American will go to Vegas. We were able to get a few words out of the quiet man at the €25K high roller event at EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo:
asmallpokerworld: Are you going to play this year's WSOP?
Phil Ivey: Yeah.
asmallpokerworld: Do you plan on playing the entire series?
Phil Ivey: I hope so.
World Series of Poker 2012 is kicked off on May 27th with a Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'Em Event - this first in a series of 61 tournaments.
Phil Ivey has 8 WSOP bracelets to his name and the only players with more are Phil Hellmuth with 11 bracelets plus Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan with 10 each.
On top of the 8 bracelets Ivey has a Main Event 2009 final table spot on his resume. He finished 7th that year - a feat that brought him $1,4M.

The program for this year's WSOP is out too - and you can check that on WSOP.com.
