One of the biggest legends in gambling, Thomas Austin Preston Jr. AKA Amarillo Slim passed away Sunday morning.

Amarillo Slim ( b. 1928 ) was a five-time WSOP winner and a living gambling legend. He passed away quietly at a hospice Sunday morning with his close ones by his side.

Amarillo Slim was part of the original Texas Rounders together with Doyle Brunson and Brian "Sailor" Roberts. In the 50s and 60s they toured the southern states of America looking for underground action before they eventually got to Las Vegas where they achieved star status.

In 1992 Amarillo Slim got his name in the Poker Hall of Fame.

His last big result came in 2000 when he came in 2nd after Phil Ivey in a WSOP PLO event. Earlier today Ivey sent off his colleague with a message on Facebook:

"Poker legend Amarillo Slim passed last night. One of the all time greats in poker! You will be missed Slim!"

Apart from being a poker maestro Slim was known as one of the worlds greatest gamblers of all time. He loved to gamble and once he won a golf match a hammer. On another occasion he won a pool match with a broom stick - and a table tennis match against a pro with a Coke bottle. There was also that one time when he won $300K in a game of dominos.

Hear the story of Slim in this radio interview or buy his autobiography "Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People."
