Allyn Jaffrey Schulman beats Dennis Phillips for WSOP senior bracelet
Mrs. Schulman was not to be denied as she took home event #29 ($1,000 Seniors No Limit Hold'Em) by defeating former November Niner Dennis Phillips.
This wasn't the time for Dennis Phillips - Allyn Jaffrey Schulman had her own plans and eventually the bracelet ended up on her wrist.
Phillips started the day with the chip lead with only 4 players left - and it was a huge stack in front of him - to be exact he had 43% of the chips.
That didn't matter in the end because it was Mrs. Schulman who won the bracelet and the $603,713 that followed with the title.
It wasn't in the cards that Schulman should win it though. Playing heads-up she was almost down and out when she wound up all-in pre-flop with K6 against Phillips' ladies. The 7 on the river was cruel to Phillips as it gave Schulman a straight.
The tournament was decided when again they ended all-in pre-flop. Schulman had A10 while Phillips was behind with his A6. With 10 on the flop things were never in doubt and Schulman could raise her arms up high as the first female champion since Vanessa Selbst won a bracelet in 2008.
The tournament drew the largest single starting day field in the history of poker - 4,128 players entered the tournament that was open to players over 50 only.
What makes the win particular fun for Allyn is the fact that her husband is Barry Schulman, former WSOP Europe Main Event winner - and her stepson is Jeff Schulman, former no5 from WSOP Main Event 2009. An impressive resume for the family!
